Now that some major infrastructure projects have been completed your HLPA is moving forward on some critical drainage and water issues.

When the Times Union Tract was first constructed it was never anticipated that the small camping tent sites would eventually turn into summer cottages and then fully winterized homes. The farmer that was here before had installed clay drainage tiles in his “fields” to help drain some of the groundwater from the hill above into the lake.

Over time this “field” system has cracked broken and become clogged with roots and other intrusions. We have all seen the effects of this on the roads and sometimes even in front of cottages – especially those nearest the shoreline of the lake. This poor drainage also impinges on all our roads leading down to the lake. It can cause rutting gullying and washing away of gravel that we put down.

The Association will begin some critical repairs on these issues to help stem damage to our roads.

It has just completed 3 projects that will help with some of this:

  • The Monroe County Water Authority (the MWA) which supplies water to our cottages has just completed repairs to 4 cracked water mains stretching from Columbia Street to Princeton Street. Residents in those areas should see drier roads this spring and summer.
  • The Ontario County Sewer Dept. is installing risers on all manholes in theĀ HLPA. Please be patient and understanding if you see them working. They may also leave their equipment in your area overnight.
  • The HLPA installed drainage mitigation measures on Hamilton Street and Rochester Street to help ease groundwater flooding from the hills.
Make no mistake about it poor drainage of the tract will continue to be a problem for all the members of the association. Your HLPA is researching potential projects and funding sources to see if there is are ways to improve our drainage thus improving our tract.
